The much-vaunted Gold Souk has opened up for business in Dubai's Global Village, allowing visitors to take in the city's top jewellery designs in one go.

The Souk - set up by The Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) in partnership with the Dubai government - showcases jewellery from 13 retailers at 25 different outlets.

The organisers say the Souk's opening represents a pivotal point in the presentation of Dubai's riches to the outside world.

'The first-of-its-kind Gold Souk is a great step forward in presenting Dubai's jewellery to the more than 160 nationalities of people who visit the Global Village," said Tawhid Abdullah, chairman of the DGJC.

"It is also an affirmation of our commitment to promote Dubai as the Jewellery Destination of the World."

The Souk features many of Dubai's top jewellery names, including the House of Alukkas LLC, Shyam Jewellers, Damas Jewellery and Pearl Enterprises.

The DGJC contains more than 700 gold and jewellery members and advances the gold and jewellery trade in Dubai.
