Wednesday, 16th November 2005 (5652 views) A Lancashire chef has claimed to have made the world' most expensive steak and mushroom pie.The Fence Gate Inn's chef Spencer Burge has listed its price at £1,000 a slice or £8,195 for the whole shot. The pie is made up of £500 pounds worth of beef, and over £2,000 of Chinese mushrooms and truffles. Its sauce comes from a vintage 1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild wine worth £4,000, topping it all off is a gold leaf. Owner of the restaurant Kevin Berkins said that the idea started out as just a silly experiment that got out of control. He told the BBC: "It's a very sophisticated pie. It's like anything else, if you drive a Rolls-Royce, you know you are driving something prestigious."
