Sotheby's to auction historic Russian jewelleryThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Tuesday, 25th October 2005 (9641 views) Sotheby's will be auctioning some of the most historically important and valuable jewellery next month. The auction will take place on November 17 in Geneva, and will offer priceless items from the Russian royal family. The most notable will probably be a diamond necklace from the family's collection, with a estimated value of $1.17 to $1.96 million (£657,000 to £1.1 million). The necklace has a detachable diamond bow clasp, and is a rare example of 18th century jewellery. During that time much jewellery was broken up and redesigned to the latest fashions, but this piece somehow remained intact. Head of Sotheby's jewellery department in London, Daniela Mascetti, said that Sotheby's was proud to display such a piece of jewellery that truly demonstrates the grandeur of the royal Russian court.
