Monday, 24th October 2005 (9296 views) The baby prince of Denmark is about to receive a gift made from gold, silver and traditional minerals from Tasmania.Jewellers Phil and Tyrus Mason have made a christening spoon for the young prince that is made from sterling silver and highlights in 18 carat gold. Amber and crocoite, Denmark and Tasmania's national gemstone respectively, make up the handle. The minerals are to symbolise the marriage of the Danish crown prince Frederik and his wife Mary, who has Tasmanian ancestry. The pair were commissioned to make the spoon by Denmark's premier, and felt the pressure to complete it as the prince was born during production. Phil Mason told The Mercury: "Time starts to play a little heavily and you're very aware that you can't afford to make any mistakes. You don't have the luxury of redoing it." The spoon is worth an estimated AUS $4,000.
