Friday, 21st October 2005 (5891 views) Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History is the first US museum to display a new exhibition on Pompeii's rich historical heritage, and features several gold items.Pompeii: Stories from an Eruption, details the historical happenings of August 24th 79AD, when the volcano Mount Vesuvius famously erupted, covering all in its path with molten lava and ash and thereby preserving it. Visitors can view the prized possessions grabbed by residents before they were engulfed in the volcanic substances, such as one woman's necklace designed to resemble two golden ivy leaves. Casts made from the hollows where Pompeii's habitants fell will also be on display, replicating the deceased citizens. Some of the artefacts on display have been provided by the Cultural Ministry of Pompeii, whilst others come from museum founder Edward Ayer's own collection. The exhibition will be running until March 26th 2006.
