This year's 'Magnificent Jewels' auction at Christie's International in New York will display some of the finest and most prestigious jewellery in the industry.

Some sample items will be a ruby ring worn by the president of South Vietnam and a small gold Steinway that was given to pianist Josef Hofmann.

The ring has an estimated value of £45,000 and the piano at £35,000. Both will be on sale at the auction.

These are only a small sample of some of the items that will be on sale. Reportedly, there will be some diamonds worth well over £1 million.

Rahul Kadakia, head of Christie's New York jewellery department, said: "The diamond market is currently quite bullish."
