Tuesday, 18th October 2005 (3653 views) Numismatists could feast their eyes on an array of currencies, as well as stamps and paper bills, at an exhibition held in Gorgan, Iran.Gorgan's Fakhreddin Asad Gorgani Hall was the venue for an insightful display of gold coins and other monetary-related artefacts, which took place last week, reports the Islamic Republic News Agency. On show was Fuzi Ghaffari-Nour's private collection of stamps, coins and paper bills amassed by him over the course of the past 50 years. The avid collector has accumulated a total of 2,000 coins during his lifetime. One of the most notable coins is made of copper and dates from 553BC, it is engraved with a soldier releasing an arrow from his bow. Another, made of gold, originates from 1968 and was minted under the rule of the Cuban President Fidel Castro. Boxes of matches presented to Nassereddin Shah Qajar were also on display, some of which were fashioned from gold, diamond and wood. Objects from 218 countries were collected together in the event arranged by the Golestan Post Office and Iran's Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organisation.
