Firoz Merchant, chairman of Pure Gold Jewellers, joked that the company was literally moving closer to its customers with the introduction of the new stores. Managing director Karim Merchant said that the company had experienced increased demand due to an influx of foreign visitors into Dubai and the continued popularity of gold. "The demand in gold and diamond retail business is experiencing an escalating trend," he explained, suggesting that predicted figures of 15 million visitors to Dubai by 2010 were perhaps not unrealistic. Founded two decades ago, the jewellers last year increased its sales and expects to replicate this success in the coming year.
