The Kaduna State Government has revealed that gold has been discovered in Birnin Gwari, Nigeria.

The area has attracted significant international interest in recent years, and foreign investment has poured in for mining projects.

The region's governor, Ahmed Makarfi, said: "The state's government is ready to enter into partnership with the federal ministry of solid minerals to enhance the state's solid mineral base."

The announcement was made while Mr Makarfi was meeting with Nigeria's minister of solid minerals, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili.

She had been visiting Kaduna to take part in mining workshop aimed at making the industry more transparent.

Mr Makarfi praised her efforts at restructuring the country's solid mineral market. Mrs Ezekwesili has tried to increase Nigeria's solid mineral base by streamlining the sector.
