Golden family house

Monday, 26th September 2005 (4195 views)

Around 70 members of the Harilela family live together in an elaborate mansion in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong, reports the Financial Times.

Gold features in many rooms in this luxurious mansion, which took three years to plan and a further year to build.

The Mogul Room is one of the most impressive rooms in the house and the four octagonal rooms it consists of boast a gold and red colour scheme.

All the room's glass tables are etched in gold leaf and the archways separating the four areas are made of gold filigree.

Gold decorations embellish other areas of the house such as the main dining table, which incorporates gold floral and leaf paintings.

The house's prayer room is also adorned with gold and includes two Indian etched glass paintings using gold, silver and bronze.

The Harilela family have been living together in their golden house for over 50 years.
