A music professional has been awarded a custom-made 22-carat gold medal by the International College of Music (ICOM) in conjunction with Westminster University.

The presentation of the gold medal to Ch'ng Wee Lern for excellence was part of a wider celebration in which students were awarded degrees on completion of music courses, reported The Star.

All the 21 students at the convocation had just completed degrees in arrangement, music production and technology.

Commenting at the presentation of his medal, Ch'ng Wee Lern said: "ICOM has provided me with the tools and knowledge in various genres of contemporary music, as well as a professional-like environment where students are exposed to the processes of music production, business and performance."

Gold is frequently used in presentation ceremonies to commemorate special occasions and reward effort.
