In the run up to the Hindu festival of Diwali, Indians will be flocking to the shops in order to purchase niceties.

Diwali continues for four days and is surrounded by pujas, religious rituals. During this time many gifts are given and received.

Upon govardhan-puja, which falls on the day after Diwali, it is traditional for the husband to give his wife an expensive gift to symbolise their devotion towards each other.

One boutique offering goods for the occasion is Soumya's Creation in Calcutta, which stocks a range of jewellery.

The boutique's proprietor, Sudatta Chakraborty told the Telegraph that: "For the Pujas, we have some very exclusive stuff at moderate prices, to reach out to a wider clientele."

Shoppers can purchase handcrafted necklaces and earrings in thewa, gold work on glass, as well as in filigree. Gold bangles embellished with semi-precious stones, retailing from Rs 900, will also be on offer.
