Prague, once the seat of the Holy Empire, is displaying its treasures at the Prague, The Crown of Bohemia, 1347–1437 exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Approximately 200 items of historic and artistic value will be on display including panel paintings, goldsmiths' work, illuminated manuscripts, sculpture, silk embroideries, and stained glass.

The items on display that have been drawn from collections in the Czech Republic, Europe and the US, document Prague-associated craftsmanship in the 14th and 15th centuries.

Under Charles IV and later his sons, Wenceslas IV and Sigismund, Prague became a cultural capital as Charles IV tried to compete with the cities of Paris and Rome.

The exhibition, which opened on September 20th, will run until January 3rd 2006 and can be seen in the Tisch Galleries on the museum's second floor.
