Arafura to begin gold explorationMonday, 25th July 2005 (3368 views) Arafura Resources has announced that it has begun exploration on the border between the Northern Territory and Queensland. The mining company hopes to find gold and uranium in the little-explored region of Australia and has started mapping the area by plane. The firm claims that, if the aerial surveys come back positive, exploratory drilling could begin as soon as Christmas this year, according to ABC News. Managing director Alistair Stephens said: "In the last 20 years the ground's basically sat unworked and unexplored so what work we're doing now is significantly different to what was done previously. It's a lot more advanced and modern techniques of exploration being applied to it with a lot higher resolution." Two other Western Australian companies, Deep Yellow and Bullion Minerals are also reportedly exploring territory in the region.
