Swedish gold exploration begins

Friday, 22nd July 2005 (3611 views)

Canadian firm Mawson Resources has announced that it has mobilised a field crew to start exploration on its claim in the Skellefte Mining District of Northern Sweden.

The 100 per cent Mawson owned 10,490 hectare Ormberget nr one claim is located in the Skellefte Mining District's "Gold Line", near to the 1.9 million ounce Faboliden gold project. The Gold Line is a 130km long by 5km wide greenstone and metasediment trend.

Vancouver-based Mawson reports that the claim is currently undergoing a prefeasibility study by Lappland Goldminers. The mining firm is the largest permit holder along the Gold Line and controls 60km of the trend.

The company suggests that, with one mine commencing production earlier this year and two projects in feasibility, the Gold Line is "an emerging gold mining district and the current focus of exploration activity in Sweden". To date, in excess of 12 million ounces of gold have been delineated in existing and mined resources in the Skellefte district and Sweden is the largest gold producer in the European Union.

The geology and mineralisation style of the Gold Line are reportedly similar to those in Timmins, Ontario and the Golden Mile in Western Australia, each of which have produced more than 50 million ounces of gold.

Mr Michael Hudson, president and CEO, commented: "The Gold Line is an emerging gold mining district and Mawson controls the largest strategic ground position in the area. Mawson's Southern Gold Line projects provide us with a big area of unexplored ground along strike from a major gold project."track
