Wednesday, 13th July 2005 (5638 views) In what may be a breakthrough development in the jewellery industry, a new colour standard has just been introduced to provide a more accurate grading of white gold. <br/> <br/>The White Gold Whiteness Index template aims to provide manufacturers, retailers and suppliers with a more accurate definition of the colour of white gold.<br/> <br/>The template allows the gold to be categorized into three grades according to their measurement on the ASTM Yellowness Index, so that a decision can that be made on the amount of rhodium plating required. <br/> <br/>Customers will also now have a more satisfactory means of determining the value of particular products. <br/> <br/>"We're pleased to lend our colour expertise to help the jewellery industry accurately assess and communicate that value," says vice president Jan-Paul van Maaren of GretagMacbeth, which helped develop the standard.<br/> <br/>The new standard can be purchased through the Manufacturing Jewellers and Suppliers of America (MJSA).<br/><img alt="track" src="http://feeds.directnews.org.uk/feedtrack/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=15004553"/>
