Friday, 24th June 2005 (5969 views) The amount of US women buying their own jewellery is on the increase.<br/><br/>This month's Omnibus Study by the Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC) has revealed that 70 per cent of women who own gold or diamond jewellery bought it for themselves.<br/><br/>Figures indicate there is a real opportunity for jewellers to attract female self-buyers.<br/><br/>Destini Gillham, market research manager for the JCOC, said: "Savvy retailers with merchandise that provides value in price and quality, and offers design and style, are positioned to make the sale."<br/><br/>Gold appears to be the best metal for buyers, with yellow and white gold the leading metals of choice amongst respondents when buying diamond jewellery.<br/><br/>Over half of the total respondents are now willing to buy their own jewellery, an increase of 23 per cent compared with September last year.<br/><br/>Popular items amongst women include right hand rings, earrings, fashion rings and tennis bracelets.<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=16009891"/>
