Indian goldsmiths join forces to boost businessMonday, 20th June 2005 (4325 views) Traditional goldsmiths in India are working together in order to try and improve business, as the market continues to change and imported jewellery takes over.Imported, particularly well-designed ornaments have forced many artists in India to leave the sector, but now new cluster model businesses are working to stay in the business. Under new plans goldsmiths work as a cluster and receive funding, looking to upgrade technology, a vital move if they are to compete with businesses elsewhere. One cluster that has already been set up is Gayathri Ornamental Stones in Elettil and now around 60 goldsmiths are expected to be brought under the cluster development project. Bank loans have now been set up for 26 goldsmiths to take part in the cluster model and financing will be provided depending on individual requirements.
