Biggest bullion bar unveiled

Thursday, 16th June 2005 (3501 views)

The world's biggest gold bullion bar has been created by a Japanese company.

Japan's Mitsubishi Materials has produced a 250-kg block worth around $3.44 billion, based on current prices.

"We decided to create an even larger gold bullion bar this time to demonstrate to the world our sophisticated minting technology, and we have been successful," the company told Reuters.

Mitsubishi Materials first produced a 200kg block in 2000 and was placed in the Guinness Book of Records.

Last year saw another company in Taiwan produce a 220-kg bar of gold.track
