Wednesday, 15th June 2005 (3712 views) An exhibition featuring a fascinating selection of ancient gold artefacts found in the tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun has already registered record ticket sales.<br/><br/>Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs, which opens tomorrow at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), has already sold more than 250,000 tickets since sales began in March - an unprecedented number for the venue.<br/><br/>Fifty of the burial objects found in the ornate coffin containing the mummified body of the boy king, who died in mysterious circumstances in 1323 B.C., are included in the exhibition.<br/><br/>These include the gold royal crown found encircling the head of the king's mummified body, and one of the gold canopic coffinettes, inlaid with precious stones, that contained his mummified internal organs.<br/><br/>Organised by the National Geographic, AEG Exhibitions, and Arts and Exhibitions International, with the co-operation of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities (ESCA), the exhibition is to start a 27-month tour of the USA.<br/><br/>"People of all ages have an enduring connection and fascination for Tutankhamun," said Zahi Hawass, secretary general of ESCA and director of the Giza and Saqqara Pyramids. <br/><br/>"Now a new generation will discover the wonders of the pharaohs and ancient Egypt."<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=8752400"/>
