Gold pendant discovered in BarbadosWednesday, 30th March 2005 (3442 views) A gold pendant dating back to the 19th century has been unearthed in Barbados. The heart shaped pendant made from the precious metal and covered in jewels was discovered in the spot where the Jubilee Gardens stood, according to Nation Newspaper. A historical archaeology class discovered the piece and a ceramic item this week and once the city site is developed into a civic square it is hoped further historical facts will be discovered. Tutor Dr Karl Watson, said: "It's a piece of personal decoration. You can see the gold on one side with little rubies on the other. It probably was a woman's locket and she probably lost it. "Things like this are a rare find." The digging is being conducted now since when the site is converted for the public the "opportunity might not produce itself again".
