Holocaust victims to receive gold train compensationTuesday, 15th March 2005 (2692 views) Victims of World War II looting are to be awarded money from America.The US has revealed it will pay $25.5 million (£13.2 million) to families of Hungarian Holocaust victims whose goods were taken by US officers from a train known as the Nazi gold train. According to the BBC, the train contained gold, jewellery, silver, china, jewels, paintings and carpets, all seized from Jewish families in Hungary by the Nazis in 1945. It is estimated that the cargo from the train could be worth as much as $90 million (£46 million). Most of the money will go to the families who are in need, rather than those who lost possessions.
