Latest figures on weddings and jewellery purchases in China have shown that gold is still the precious metal of choice for brides and grooms.

Luxury jewellery purchases are increasing in the area due to increasingly affluent young people, with most keen to have the best, according to Reuters.

Although platinum is being recommended as an upcoming success in the wedding jewellery market, gold still proves popular since platinum's high price puts producers off.

Many companies continue to use white gold as the favourite metal of choice for wedding bands and various gifts.

As in other countries figures also suggest that increasing amounts of Chinese women are making jewellery purchases for themselves.
