Whitehall Jewellers reports decreased sales

Whitehall Jewellers has reported that like-for-like sales tailed off nine per cent during the November to December holiday period.

Lat year saw a 6.4 per cent increase in sales for the same festive period.

Total sales for the period totalled $110.8 million (£59.7 million), compared to $120.9 million (£65 million) for the same period in 2003.

Sales for the preceding 11-month period decreased 3.6 per cent, compared to a 0.7 per cent decrease for the same period in 2003.

The company has said it will continue to focus on repositioning its brand with new merchandise assortments.

Whitehall currently operates 382 stores in 38 states.
