Jewellery designer to raise money for tsunami orphans

Monday, 10th January 2005 (4439 views)

A prominent jewellery designer has created a pendant to be sold globally from which the entire profits will go to benefit children orphaned by the south Asia tsunamis.

Jane Taylor, best known for her ingenious design of the Chubby Bezel, said she was "overwhelmed with the desire to be useful".

The profits will go to supporting an orphanage in Sri Lanka.

The piece named Rala - the Sri Lankan word for ' wave' - will feature two waves inside a circle and will be available in 14kt gold, 18kt gold and silver. It will be sold throughout the US at authorised Jane Taylor Jewellery retailers.

Ms Taylor began her business in 1994 with the intention of bringing heirloom quality, hand-made jewellery together with contemporary design.

She won the DeBeers Diamonds Today award twice- in 1999 for a three-stone right hand ring, and in 1996 for her Hinge-Click earring design.

She has also won two AGTA Spectrum awards for her use of coloured gemstones.
