Tuesday, 21st December 2004 (4282 views)

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has announced that it is going to open an overseas centre in Dubai in 2006.

According to National Jeweler, the site will be the 12th overseas location for the institute.

The new education branch will be situated in the Dubai Metals and Commodities Centre's (DMCC) building.

GIA Vice President of Education Brook Ellis said: "Dubai has grown steadily as a major trading center in the Middle East.

"There is a thriving gem and jewellery industry here, and a corresponding demand for greater gemological education services. GIA will be pleased to deliver its quality education in the region."

The site is hoped to help with trading activities in precious goods such as gems, gold and jewellery.
