Tuesday, 23rd November 2004 (6553 views) The number of producing mines in Alaska is set to soon double and the Alaska Miners Association has predicted that gold production could increase by around 250,000 ounces a year.<BR/><BR/>According to the Alaska Journal, there are currently three producing hard rock mines in Alaska but this could soon increase to six.<BR/><BR/>Mines that are set to open are the Rock Creek gold project near Nome, Nixon Fork gold-copper-silver mine near McGrath and the reopened Kensington gold project north of Juneau. <BR/><BR/>Plans were revealed as part of the annual convention of the Alaska Miners Association, held earlier this month.<BR/><BR/>Previous drilling work at all the sites has produced positive results and gold resources at a number of the sites are already thought to be high.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7137246"/>
