Export bar placed on Parisian exhibition clockWednesday, 17th November 2004 (2919 views) A Parisian exhibition clock has been deemed so important for the study of goldsmithing that a temporary export bar has been placed on it to protect it.The bar has been issued by arts minister Estelle Morris, following recommendation by the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art. Made in the 19th century by French imperial jeweller Baugrand, the clock is in the Neo-Renaissance style and is made from gold, silver-gilt lapis lazuli and enamel. Since Baugrand's career was brief and the jewellery settings he used were so unique, his work is now very rare and the clock has been described as a superb example of French Renaissance Revival goldsmith's work. It is also unique in that it combines work of modellers, enamellers, chasers and engravers. Under the deferral, the clock will be available at the recommended price of £295,000 until January 17, with a possible extension available until March 2005.
