Scottish jeweller proves a hit on the big screenFriday, 12th November 2004 (3860 views) A jewellery firm, which was set up in a garden shed in Orkney 36 years ago, is sparkling with success with designs increasingly appearing on the big screen.Ortak is just about to launch its new range Siren and now used to mixing with celebrities, it has appointed Miss Scotland and Miss UK to promote the new jewellery. Appearing at a host of events, jewellery from the company has most recently appeared on the necks, wrists and ears of stars at the BAFTA awards in Glasgow. Chief executive Alastair Gray told the Scotsman: "It's a matter of some pride for us to be sponsoring the Scottish BAFTA event. We became the official sponsors of the UK BAFTAs in April and from this there is growing interest in our jewellery." According to the company 57 of its pieces were used at the event and some performers arranged long-term arrangements with the jeweller. "It was a phenomenal accolade for a small company like ourselves. We would not have expected such an honour in our wildest dreams. But now that it has come, we intend proving it is justified and that we can live with the very best," Mr Gray added. The company employs 160 people and designs and produces gold and silver jewellery. It supplies retailers and also has its own chain with 12 own brand shops throughout the UK.
