Thursday, 28th October 2004 (4803 views)

With just a few weeks left until Diwali, Indian consumers are turning into shopaholics, with some queuing up to shop until midnight.

Streets and traffic are packed solid as people try to purchase their all important gifts, with gold jewellery a must.

Despite the fact that gold has gone up in price, Indian consumers are still keen to buy the precious metal.

Vikas Vora, a jeweller in Chhota Bazaar told Express News Service: "Gold jewellery is still in great demand.

"People are purchasing without any second thoughts. After Diwali, the marriage season starts so I am expecting a good business."

The store has got prepared for the increase in demand, since it is already a popular shopping spot amongst women.
