Gold jewellery wins Indian excellence award

Thursday, 14th October 2004 (4252 views)

Gold jewellery was among a host of products praised by India's textile minister Shri Shankersinh Vaghela today.

The minister was presenting the 'UNESCO - CCI Seal of Excellence Awards for Handicrafts Products in South Asia', which have now been running for two years.

According to the minister the key concerns for the jewellery industry and other creative sectors were social and environmental factors, quality and marketability.

The awards were first set up two years ago and the minister hopes they will play a big role in upgrading the standards of artisanal products even further.

In total 35 products from the area were selected for an excellence award, including items made in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

A number of special events are also being organised as part of the awards ceremony.
