Sparkly spud discovered in Australian competition

Monday, 11th October 2004 (3189 views)

A bizarre and unique competition was held this weekend as gold diggers battled it out to hunt for a golden potato.

Each year Australians come together in Koroit to dig for a potato made from the precious metal and win a top prize.

According to the Warrnambool Standard, this year's winner came from Melbourne and won $1000 worth of jewellery and $500 spending money.

Crowds have to literally get on their hands and knees and dig through the dirt in their hunt for gold in the 'Big Dig' and it took over six minutes for the golden potato to be found.
