Ancient animals go to auction

Monday, 11th October 2004 (3215 views)

A unique collection of ancient animals is to go to auction this month, with items once belonging to the late Leo Mildenberg.

Christies of London is to hold the auction on October 26 and 27, which includes a host of Greek, Egyptian and Roman animals made out of a number of materials such as gold.

The 1,000 piece collection includes jewellery, sculptures and charms and is hoped to raise around £2.5 million.

For over 40 years, Mr Mildenberg collected the pieces and only chose items that showed animals that were "free, peaceful and spirited".
