Jewellers claim Chinese consumers prefer precious jewelleryTuesday, 5th October 2004 (4421 views) The jewellery market is undergoing a makeover on the Chinese mainland and is seeing consumers preferring precious jewellery containing precious stones and high quality metals.Hong Kong jewellers Chow Tai Fook is the leading dealer in premium jewellery in the area and claims sales of diamond jewellery and 24 carat gold pieces are on the increase. Kent Wong, director for Hong Kong and China told China Daily: "Now, Chow Tai Fook's diamond jewellery sales are increasing by about 30 per cent per year, as is our market in 24-carat pure gold jewellery. "People in the mainland are always looking for up-to-date things. In our company, diamond jewellery is now about 40 per cent of the business, with 24-carat gold jewellery accounting for 40 per cent," Mr Wong added. According to surveys, Chow Tai Fook has the highest brand awareness and its brands are more popular on the mainland than any other competitors.
