Golden slum nuggets under investigationTuesday, 5th October 2004 (3224 views) Gold nuggets, said to be panned from Quezon City's Dario creek are being investigated to ascertain where they originated.According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the nuggets may have come from the central bank, where they may have been part of scrap metal dumped at a vacant lot nearby. A team of geologists have inspected the creek, led by Edwin Rillon, a geologist at the DENR's Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), according to Metro Manila News. "There were still people panning in the area when we got there. According to them, they found gold flakes, but they refused to show these to us," he said. "Tests will determine if there is really gold or traces of it in the creek," he added. Crowds have been panning for gold each day, beginning at 10am and not finishing until 5pm.
