Golden discovery in slum's streamMonday, 4th October 2004 (3565 views) Hundreds are flocking to an overcrowded slum in Quezon City, in the Philippines, on the hunt for gold.The site at the centre of this precious metal frenzy is a polluted stream where some residents found gold nuggets. One resident Alfredo Gallo, found a gold nugget after scouring the riverbed, he then sold it to a pawnshop for $535. A village chief told AFP: "It is a puzzle. All we got from this before was trash." Some people have driven for miles to get to the site, where they pan for gold with a host of equipment including fishnets and steel pans.
