Hundreds are flocking to an overcrowded slum in Quezon City, in the Philippines, on the hunt for gold.

The site at the centre of this precious metal frenzy is a polluted stream where some residents found gold nuggets.

One resident Alfredo Gallo, found a gold nugget after scouring the riverbed, he then sold it to a pawnshop for $535.

A village chief told AFP: "It is a puzzle. All we got from this before was trash."

Some people have driven for miles to get to the site, where they pan for gold with a host of equipment including fishnets and steel pans.
