Indian consumers opt for gold and precious stones

Consumer trends for gold jewellery in India are seeing a high demand for pieces that include stones.

In the past, jewellers have claimed that people would not look further afield than diamonds, but consumers are now "getting bolder" and experimenting.

Vijay Khanna, director of Khanna Jewellers, told Delhi Newsline: "People are going in for co-ordinated stuff these days. So be it for a wedding or for everyday wear, people want jewellery customised to their clothes or their accessories. That's why precious stones are doing so well."

Khanna has now launched a new Amaris range to cater for the wedding market and meet the demand for jewellery and precious stones.

Other Indian jewellers reaping the benefits of the new trend are Eros Jewellery, which specialises in 18 carat gold jewellery with diamonds and natural coloured stones, and Amrapali Jewels, which makes gold ethnic jewellery.
