Gold is being used in an innovative way - to boost the flavour of coffee, as the precious metal becomes an ever-popular choice for use in coffee filters.

As coffee filters are continuously improved over the years, gold has been found to offer the best results - both in terms of removing sediment and grounds, and not having a negative effect on flavour.

According to MSNBC, the new filters are ecologically friendly and easy to use and the gold variety do not give off an odour or taste like nylon and steel filters.

Among the companies offering the glamourous filters are Swiss Gold and Braun, offering items that include a section of 23 carat gold.
