Thursday, 16th September 2004 (4124 views)

Jewellers across India are producing a host of gold jewellery items for Indian consumers to purchase and use to worship Gods.

With faith not just restricted to rituals, jewellery firms are producing gold jewellery and golden trunks for religious purposes.

One consumer, Mahima Kale told Express India: "Jewellers across the city are offering…a never-before assortment of jewellery for both Gauri and Ganpati."

Jeweller Sunil Ghodke who has just created a 12-inch hibiscus in pure gold for a local businessman explained: "We have over 185 new pooja items and jewels in both gold and silver."

Ganpati is the Hindu's elephant headed God who is always worshipped first in prayer and whose name is said before any type of worship - representing power and wisdom.

In addition the goddess Gauri is believed to be the one that created Ganpati as a pure white being out of the mud of her body.
