US people flock to county to hunt for goldTuesday, 14th September 2004 (3340 views) After 150 years since people flocked to the US area of Calavera County and the second largest nugget of gold ever discovered was found, the rush has returned.The legacy of the gold nugget is continuing as people head to the area's creeks, old mining pits and streams, according to the Stockton Record. Ken Rucker, works for the Southern California-based Gold Prospectors Association of America and claimed most people are just visiting for recreation, but some are actually attempting to strike it rich. However, some take the search extremely seriously, with people struggling to get by, determined that they will find some gold in the area and make their fortunes. One teacher in the area is trying to get a number of gold mines reopened and claims "the gold resources of this area have not worn down".
