Jewellers reveal latest wedding ring trendsTuesday, 14th September 2004 (4410 views) Jewellers from the UK and the US have been offering their opinions on the perfect wedding ring, all voicing different views.Whilst some claim it's the meaning of the ring that's important or the design, many argue the actual metal type is a key issue. Historically, couples have traditionally worn a simple yellow gold band, however many people are now opting for different designs and white gold. John Baird, a company spokesperson for cyber jewellery shop bluenile.com told MSNBC that the choice of metal is the most important choice, with standard options nowadays including yellow gold, white gold and platinum. According to Mr Baird, white gold is popular for a white metal look but at a slightly lower price point. Although yellow and white gold are similar in price Mr Baird claims that in the long run yellow gold is probably better value. A key recommendation for ensuring the ring lasts is to mix 18-carat gold with silver, copper, nickel or zinc for extra strength. In addition mixed metal rings are proving popular or metal upgrades on five year anniversaries.
