The extension of Pakistan's Peshawar Museum is set to be completed soon, with a new gold coin collection set to appear in a new section.

According to the Daily Times, the extension has cost around R33.11 million and has two parts - a newly constructed area and development of existing structures.

Archaeology director Dr Ihsan Ali said: "There are currently 14,101 items in the museum which include Gandhara sculptures, coins, manuscripts and copies of the Holy Quran, inscriptions, weapons, dresses, jewellery, Kalash effigies, paintings of the Mughal era and later periods, household objects and local and Persian handicrafts."

The coin collection includes 8,625 items such as punch marked items and many come from a host of different periods.

Coins are made in gold and other precious metals and are a mixture of square, circular and rectangular shapes.
