Gold nugget auctioned on eBay

Tuesday, 24th August 2004 (3210 views)

A gold nugget, found by miners last summer at a site owned by Silverado Gold Mines, is being auctioned on Internet site eBay.

The 8.6 ounce piece has been up for bidding since Friday and is part of a gold nugget sales programme taking place at the company.

The nuggets were buried in frozen river gravels at the Nolan Gold Mine for over 10,000 years.

Located in Alaska, the mine is completely owned by Silverado and when it first started around 130,000 ounces of gold were recovered by miners.

It is thought the nuggets from the area typically contain between 92 and 97 per cent pure gold.
