US jeweller commemorates state bird with new collection

Thursday, 19th August 2004 (4096 views)

A local jeweller has decided to celebrate the state bird for Rhode Island with a commemorative gold jewellery line.

The Rhode Island Red has been the state bird for 50 years but has remained rather inconspicuous, until jeweller Candace Sherman decided to produce her 'Chanticleer' range of pendants, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and blazer pins.

Among the items on offer are the 'Kissing Chickens', 'Eggsactly' and 'Cocky Cowboys', according to the Newport Daily News.

Prices for the range start from $50 up to $685 and a further 15 chicken designs have been created in rose, white and yellow gold.

Ms Sherman has been producing gold designs since 1976, with some pieces combining the precious metal with precious and semi-precious stones.
