Golden smiles as new jewellery trend takes off

Monday, 16th August 2004 (4677 views)

The growing popularity of the so-called 'bling bling' lifestyle is opening up new avenues of demand for the gold jewellery market.

With high profile celebrities and stars wearing ostentatious and glamorous jewellery -a style known as 'bling bling' - the vogue for gold pieces has benefited from its exclusive and high-end perception.

Now that trend is spreading to a new area, as trendsetters seek new ways to showcase their jewels - with decorated teeth the latest fashion.

Websites have now been set up such as gangstagold.com and goldteethny.com letting consumers purchase items such as 'clip on' gold teeth for around $150 to $1,000.

At Mr Bling jewellery, manager Nino Rivas told STLToday that one of the driving patterns behind the trend was its crossover appeal as it moved beyond the traditional demand from African-Americans.

Gold teeth pieces range from Gucci symbols and to vampire style fangs and golden anchor shapes.

Reportedly actor Johnny Depp kept his gold teeth in for six months after finishing filming for the hit movie Pirates of the Caribbean.
