Golden treasures rediscovered in AfghanistanFriday, 13th August 2004 (3211 views) Afghanistan's Kabul Museum is celebrating after some of its golden treasures were rediscovered having been lost during war action.Known as the Bactrin gold, more than 20,000 pieces of gold jewellery and ornaments had been hidden by museum staff and bank workers. The items were found in a bank vault under the presidential palace in Kabul and have been inventoried and locked up. When the pieces go back on display they will be placed in display cases and have round the clock security, according to MSNBC. At present the museum is being restored, Shairazuddin Saifi, director of the Kabul Museum restoration department said: "I want the museum to be as magnificent as it was before the wars. That is my goal."
