India International Jewellery Show attracts record numbers

Thursday, 22nd July 2004 (4662 views)

Organisers of the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) have announced that it received record numbers of visitors this year.

The five-day event, held in mid-July, reportedly attracted record numbers of exhibitors and visitors across the three halls. Around 1,200 exhibitors from across Asia attended the 2004 show, exhibiting gold, gems and diamonds to an estimated 4,000 visitors.

The Show, organised by India's Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), was held at the Godrej Complex, 40 kilometres outside Mumbai. The IIJS has been running for 20 years and has grown from small beginnings into one Asia's premier jewellery shows.

In his opening speech to delegates, India's minister of commerce, Shri Kamal Nath, said he expected to see India's gem and jewellery leap by at least 25 per cent.

Style-wise the show was a fusion of Eastern and Western delight, according to organisers, from traditional Jaipur-origin designs to the right hand ring.

The GJEPC predicts that the explosion of gem and jewellery brands in the Indian domestic market will continue as interest in branded goods increases.
