Gold jewellery within closer reach thanks to Welsh scheme

Thursday, 20th May 2004 (4054 views)

Welsh consumers will be able to buy more local luxury goods such as finely crafted gold jewellery under a new loan scheme.

The New Collectorplan loan scheme will let more people buy art and crafts on interest-free credit as over £1 million a year will now be used to boost the plan.

Consumers will be able to obtain loans from between £50 to £2,000 to help buy items such as jewellery from participating Welsh venues.

The scheme is run by the Arts Council of Wales and its budget will be nearly doubled as a result of the new £500,000 loan it has obtained.

Culture Minister Alun Pugh told the Western Mail: "There are hundreds of artists working and displaying in Wales, producing everything from ironwork and wood sculptures to finely-crafted gold jewellery."

It is hoped the scheme will help art and craft producers in the area.
