US reports high demand in charm bracelets

Thursday, 20th May 2004 (4341 views)

Charm bracelets are growing in popularity again as jewellery fashion in America appears to have gone back to the 50s.

Online auction site eBay is among many jewellery retailers that have seen increased demand in charms in the last several months.

"Charm bracelets are big for summer and also for fall among the back-to-school crowd and the on- or off-line fashionista shopper," eBay style director Constance C.R. White explained to news-journal online.

"It's all part of the vintage trend in fashion, with the iconic looks of the 1950s, such as a cardigan sweater and a charm bracelet rampant on runways and being embraced by women all over the country," she added.

A US jeweller has claimed that she has sold around 5,000 gold and silver charms from her business as consumers have become more nostalgic in their jewellery choices.

Patti Esbia of Patti Esbia Antique & Estate Jewelry: "Every woman's mother had a charm bracelet and younger women are having pangs of nostalgia now, buying charms for themselves and their daughters."

Items on offer from Patti Esbia range from 1/8 inch to 2 inches wide and most are made from 14, 18 or 24 carat gold.
