Gem company forms jewellery council

Monday, 17th May 2004 (4016 views)

Gemological laboratory EGL USA has formed a new council to discuss key issues facing the company and the industry as a whole.

Prompted by the growth of the lab industry in the last few years, the Strategic Policy Council consists of 14 leaders in the jewellery retail, supply and marketing sectors.

CEO Mark Gershburg explained: "As a major lab, we have a responsibility to help uphold consumer confidence. By working more closely together with all segments of the industry, we will be more effective and better prepared to face future problems."

Important issues recently discussed by the council were industry standards, consumer education and cooperation.

EGL provides fine jewellers and consumers with reliable and accurate gemstone ID and certification.

Among the new council are members such as MK Diamonds & Jewelry, Diamond International, Julius Klein Diamonds and Levinson Jewelers.
